SAP Solution Manager 7.2: System Monitoring - Add/Remove the recipients for alert notification

Although setting up monitoring of managed systems is fairly simple and recipients are set in the process itself, it sometimes becomes confusing for the novice.

Alert notifications through solution manager can be set via a global template or for individual alerts. Here I share a case whence global notification setting is active and there is a requirement for alert notifications to be sent to a specific team/person for a handful of alerts.

Scenario: Team A wants to be notified for batch job failures for a SAP system. They do not want any other alerts concerned with the system. The intended recipient(s) is/are not listed in the default recipients list.

Step 1: Login to solution manager system with a solman administrator user.

Step 2: Execute transaction SOLMAN_SETUP.

Step 3: Navigate as below:
solman_setup-->System monitoring-->Template maintenance(step 4)--> choose template-->Edit mode

Notice that the Automatic Notification is set to Global Settings. In this case, all alerts generated for a managed system will be sent to all recipients maintained in the global template.

Step 4: To change recipients for a particular alert, navigate to the Alerts tab and click on Change Settings.
Now select the alert to be modified (Batch Job Errors in this case) and navigate to the Notifications tab as shown below:

Step 5: Change the automatic notification field to Active.
The Add button is enabled. Recipients can be added here.

Global recipients or recipient lists can be maintained by clicking on the respective buttons.

Save.

Step 6: Go to Managed Objects tab. Select the system, then click on Apply and Activate. The assignment status will turn from yellow to green.
